    Description

Continental Colonial Tenor Saxophone. Condition is "Seller refurbished". 1919 General  John J. Pershing ordered 150 of these to
be delivered to the Schkyl Armory, Philadelphia, PA. to raise morale and esprit de corps among his residential bands.  He ordered
them to be lavishly stenciled with General George Washington's profile in tricorn hat and surrounded by 13 stars signifying the
13 signers of the colonies declaring independence.  A young military bandsman joining the Army Band was assigned this
instrument and allowed to take it home with him upon his discharge.  He traveled to Boston, MA and became an outstanding
saxophonist, mimicking jazz great Lester Young.  When he died in 1950 he told his mother that Bob Despres, a saxophone side man
should be given a chance to buy it, which he did in 1950.  It proved to be a very outstanding performer when Bob was at UNH and
the Ted Herbert Hampton Beach Casino Orchestra.  When Bob left for UP with saxophone in hand he auditioned for pick up work
around Philly, sax players would comment "where do you get that sound"?  My booking agent kept me busy, Bill Haley was now
local.  At 86 years old, it is time for me to part with this outstanding instrument.  I sent it to Ellis Music in Vermont for a total
professional overhaul and repad, ultrasonic cleaning, key guard replacement, lubrication of all points.  John Ranney a professional
basoonist and band instrument repair technician did a masterful job and the horn plays with the same force and timber as original
when purchased in 1919.  Say hello to General George Washington profile (this is not a recruit).  I consider it  a valuable
collectors item performing as new, included is the original otto link super tone master New York Serial Number W 81, Seven
Star opening.  This super tone master should never be separated from this horn.  Also included is a Pan American Ebonite
mouth piece.  A Neo Tech neck strap is also included. Serial Number T 55493 L
